Another week rolls by, another top London ensemble drops in to Jazz @ The Oxford, and this particular week we’re delighted to be welcoming this amazing trio lead by Tori Freestone!
Tori Freestone Trio
Tori Freestone – saxophone
Dave Manington – double bass
Tim Giles - drums
Saxophonist and composer Tori Freestone is an inspirational improviser and musician. Recently she has played with Andy Sheppard, Loop Collective Member Rory Simmons’ ‘Fringe Magnetic’ (with two albums available on the loop label one of which features Jamie Cullum on vocals and a third album to be released in 2012), The Ivo Neame Quintet and the Ivo Neame Octet (whose album ‘Yatra‘ has recieved rave reviews – the album launch broadcast is still available here for a few more days), Neil Yates’ N-Circle’ Jazz Orchestra, the Naadia Sheriff Quartet, ‘Solstice’ (a sextet featuring Brigitte Beraha and John Turville), as well as this trio featuring drummer Tim Giles and bassist Dave Mannington. The trio affords these three fantastic musicians room to explore the dynamic of the chordless saxophone trio to it’s full potential, using original writing and some standard material as a starting point; having just recorded in September, this is a perfect time to come and catch a great band playing at the top of their game!
As ever, doors 8:30, music from 9; entry only £5
See you there!
